Careers That Suit Social Personalities And Require A High School Diploma

Most people are one of six personality types according to psychologist John L. Holland who developed a a theory of careers and vocational choice based upon thses personality types. This theory has been well research and has been adopted by the U.S Department of Labor as one of the classification methods for occupations.

The personalities are

  • Realistic (Doers),
  • Investigative (Thinkers),
  • Artistic (Creators),
  • Social (Helpers),
  • Enterprising (Persuaders),
  • and Conventional (Organizers).

Each letter or code stands for a particular code which some refer to as Holland Codes or RIASEC. You can learn more about the Holland Codes here.

The following careers are best suited for those who have a personality that is social and are interested in careers that frequently involve working with, communicating with, and teaching people. These occupations often involve helping or providing service to others and require a minimum educational equivalent of a high school diploma.

Child, family, and school social workers
Child, family, and school social workers provide social services and assistance to improve the social and psychological functioning of children and their families and to maximize the family well-being and the academic functioning of children. They may also assist parents, arrange adoptions, and find foster homes for abandoned or abused children. In schools, they address such problems as teenage pregnancy, misbehavior, and truancy. They may also also advise teachers.

Health educators
Health educators provide and manage health education programs that help individuals, families, and their communities maximize and maintain healthy lifestyles. Collect and analyze data to identify community needs prior to planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies, and environments. They may also serve as resource to assist individuals, other health professionals, or the community, and may administer fiscal resources for health education programs.

Rehabilitation counselors
Rehabilitation counselors counsel individuals to maximize the independence and employability of persons coping with personal, social, and vocational difficulties that result from birth defects, illness, disease, accidents, or the stress of daily life. Coordinate activities for residents of care and treatment facilities. Assess client needs and design and implement rehabilitation programs that may include personal and vocational counseling, training, and job placement.

Substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselors
Substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselors counsel and advise individuals with alcohol, tobacco, drug, or other problems, such as gambling and eating disorders. They may also counsel individuals, families, or groups or engage in prevention programs.

Occupational therapist aides
Occupational therapist aides under close supervision of an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, perform only delegated, selected, or routine tasks in specific situations. These duties include preparing patient and treatment room.

Medical assistants
Medical assistants perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician.The other type of personality that strongly associated with this occupation is conventional.

Physical therapist assistants
Physical therapist assistants assist physical therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures.
