Forensic science technicians collect, identify, classify, and analyze physical evidence related to criminal investigations. Perform tests on weapons or substances, such as fiber, hair, and tissue to determine significance to investigation. They may also testify as expert witnesses on evidence or crime laboratory techniques. They may also serve as specialists in area of expertise, such as ballistics, fingerprinting, handwriting, or biochemistry. In order to successfully forge ahead with their careers, analysts in a survey carried out by U.S. Department of Labor (via O*NET) have marked out the following as important attributes that forensic science technicians would need. - Skills: These include basic skills, which are developed capacities that facilitate learning or the more rapid acquisition of knowledge. Plus cross-functional skills, which are developed capacities that facilitate performance of activities that occur across jobs
- Style: Personal characteristics that can affect how well someone performs a job
